One statewide code, different climates
Utah's 2026 energy code (2024 IECC with Utah amendments, H.B. 65, effective July 1, 2026) sets the same minimums statewide: R-38 ceilings and R-21 walls, from St. George (IECC climate zone 3B) to Park City (zone 6B). In St. George, insulation and air sealing mostly fight summer heat gain; in the mountains, winter heat loss. Climate still matters for how we build. Most of the Wasatch Front is Climate Zone 5B, and high-elevation areas are Zone 6B, which changes how unvented roofs and vaulted ceilings are detailed.
